Lights, Camera, Action...

Brendon has been writing a short film for a little while now. Refining the scenes, the dialogue, the direction.

It's all coming together.

He recently took advantage of some time off, and drove to the house at Pacific Palms to do some test shots and to determine lighting requirements. His friend Tass came with him, so it was also a bit of a break for him, and a chance for Tass to see Forster, Seal Rocks and a few other sights in the area. It was lovely to finally meet him. Brendon and Tass have been friends for years but I've never actually met him. I fell like I've known him for all that time anyway.

The two of them are off on a trek in Nepal sometime in the next year or so, and have been 'training' for more than 12 months now. They can only do so much in the fitness area, it's a bit difficult to train for the altitude though.

Brendon felt the test shots went well and even though we had organized extra lighting for him, it wasn't needed.

The plan now is to put the shots together in a B&W trailer, just to see how it all looks. If it's a success, I suppose I'll have to try and organize hair and makeup trailers for when the 'artists' arrive for the shooting schedule. Oh and the catering truck, Director's chair (no, have one of those), costume department....

Anyone know if Ashton Kutcher has to get rid of his trailer in the settlement?? From what I've heard, the size of it could cater for everything we'd need!

Some colour to brighten the day...

For no particular reason, except that I loved the colours together, I bought these gorgeous Gerberas at Woolworths a few weeks ago.

They looked so refreshingly colourful, I grabbed my little point and shoot to capture them.

I'm so proud!...

...of both of my sons!

You all should have heard me gushing about the birth of my beautiful grandson, Archie Michael, to my youngest son Darren and his lovely partner, Natalie. If not, you can read about the event here.

Well I thought I'd also gush about how proud I am of my eldest son Brendon and the photography work he does. And that he recently received recognition with a promotion! We are all so happy for him being promoted to Production Manager where he works.

Brendon and his girlfriend Sarah visited Darren, Natalie and Archie a few weeks after the birth and, of course, took some photos.

Birth announcement cards had been discussed and investigated, with Darren and Nat deciding on a company to go with. Brendon was talking to them about it and offered to do the cards for them.

Here is the result...

Isn't it beautiful! You can all see why I'm so proud, can't you?! Little Archie captured so perfectly!

If you are in the Brisbane area and looking for a photographer (shameless promotion here!), please check out Brendon's website and blog here. He'd be only to happy to come and meet with you to discuss your event and give you a quote.

Brendon Grove Blog

I'm sure you are all aware by now that my eldest son, Brendon is a photographer. Well, he's taken the plunge and is now a blogger.

Brendon's first few posts are up now. The most recent being his trip to New Zealand a couple of weeks ago. You can link into his Travel website to take a look too if you like.

He's also showcasing one of his best friends, Tass Greenwood.

Tass is a musician. The two of them have collaborated with an idea for music to compliment the screen play Brendon has been working on for a little while. All still a work in progress. Including the music, but I had a chance today to listen to the piece Tass wrote for it. He has 'read' exactly what Brendon is after and it will fit in so well with the film.

When I have more news on the film's progress I'll give you some teasers. There is still location and production to finalize and some dialogue he's not quite happy with.

This is what he is aiming for :)

They are also in training for a trip to Nepal planned for sometime next year I think. They'll need to be fit as they will be trekking, and then there's the visit to Mt Everest. This is all still in planning stages also, but the training is going well.

Brendon's portfolio is growing considerably now, with music photography through one of the music publications in Brisbane, his wedding photography and of course his own travels. The website will eventually cover his film work which is something he is striving towards.

If you are after any work in the Brisbane area, please contact him through his email address, he's only too willing to talk to you about your ideas.

Nordic Imagery - A passport to another landscape

Perhaps I was from one of the Nordic countries in another life!
But really, I think I love the images in the new Ikea book because I truly enjoy beautiful imagery, especially when it is depicted so well in a book such as this.
SY - Love for Textiles is the latest addition to my every growing collection of printed works about textiles. This would have to rank as #2 in my collection now. The first being 'Russian Textiles', and relegated to 3rd position is my Art Deco textiles publication.
The composition is dynamic in some instances and moving in others. A photographers perspective of staging a shoot brings new light to the scene, for example on pages 170 and 171 a beautiful room has been created on a rocky shoreline.
To quote the cover text:
This is not a book to read.
It's a book to touch. To
browse in. To be inspired by.
Enthused by. Because textiles
aren't about sharp scissors
and awkward sewing
machines. They're about
creative desire. So stop
reading, open up and step
inside our textile world.
Step into this world now with me while I bring you some of the imagery.

Simply stunning!

My Creative Space

Wow it's been a while since I did one of these.
Visit here for more fabulous Creative Spaces every Thursday on Kootoyoo.
I've been playing around with photoshop tonight as it's been a while since I did that also. I've started an eCourse on blogging and wanted to have a folder to keep my notes, so I decided I would 'decorate' it with some beautiful photos.
Part of the course in a week or 2 will be about styling your own photos at home. Now I still only have a point and shoot Fuji camera, which is fine, but when I saw my son's new Canon 7D, I now really really want a DSLR.
Be patient T!!
Tonight I hunted around the World Wide Web for some gorgeousness, settling on some very classic and subtle colours. Here's what I came up with.
